Connor MORRIS
The body of work is inspired by the epic poem, Divine Comedy written by Dante Alighieri in 1321. The epic poem represents a soul’s journey after death, portraying Dante’s sense of a “divine justice”, where souls are either punished or rewarded accordingly based on their actions during life - to paradise or in Hell (Inferno).
The poem resonates with questions of choice and consideration of what is defined for self of right and wrong.
I have created a series of rings, the ring itself a metaphor for the circles of hell. The series functions as morality signifiers and are the embodiment of each punishment within the descending rings of hell, visually encompassing the conceptual and the tactile and visceral.
