My art practice delves into our relationship between humanity and food and explore issues of food consumption, over consumption and gluttony. I am drawn to the irony of attachment to fast food that is so often misused and misunderstood.
Through a combination of refined prints, paintings, installations and drawings, I explore overwhelming presence of processed French fries in our lives and their cultural and environmental impact. The use of fast food packaging functions as metaphor by the using a structured format of subway tiles, systems of mass production and waste is interrogated. The use of subway tiles in fast food chains give the perception of cleanliness, the appearance of subway tiles can contribute to a sense of detachment and impersonalisation. The mass production of fast food provides convenience and affordability it involves unsustainable practices, such as over consumption and food waste.
My body of work interrogates how food is being falsely presented to us, only showing us what we want to see. The cycle persists due to factors like addiction to unhealthy food habits, convenience, social influences, the constant marketing of fast food as a desirable and affordable option.
