Megan HICKEY

As a graphic designer, I draw much of my inspiration from nature, animals, and the people around me and my approach blends organic forms with modern aesthetics, creating visually striking and interesting designs.

My creative process is rooted in a curiosity about the world and a desire to capture its quirks and nuances through design. I describe my work as quirky and playful, with elements of grunge and a strong focus on vibrant colours.

Colour plays a significant role in my work, bringing energy and emotion to every piece. While I often embrace a light-hearted, expressive aesthetic, I do also enjoy moments of simplicity and clean, professional design. I have explored many illustration styles, using gouache paint and fine liners to create detailed, textured pieces. I also took at look at the tactile process of Lino printing and pattern-making, experimenting with shapes, colour, and repetition. These methods allow me to express a sense of imperfection and spontaneity, which I believe adds character to my designs.

I also enjoy integrating photography into my work, blending various media to create layered, interesting visuals. While my work has a whimsical, playful quality, I aim to infuse it with deeper meaning, inviting the viewer to explore the stories and themes hidden beneath the surface. Ultimately, I strive to create designs that are both visually engaging and thought-provoking, while remaining true to my style as a graphic designer.
