Spring 2026 Printmaking TETRA PAK ETCHING

COURSE OUTLINE

This wonderful course introduces or expands the knowledge of Intaglio Printmaking with the creation of a Tetra Pak plate with drypoint etching. Introduction to intaglio printing skills, registration and editioning skills. Technical skills in the adaptation of ink viscosity and humidity and printing on an intaglio press. 

Tetra Pak etching (or Tetra Pak printmaking) is a contemporary and accessible intaglio and drypoint technique that uses a recycled material. Instead of traditional metal plates or polypropilene, you clean and cut open juice or milk cartons and thereby use the metallized or plastic-coated cardboard surface to draw with an etching needle or cutter, peel, ink, and print images. This also allows for the substrate to be shaped or conceptual interpretations of the folds from the cartons.

Gamblin Blue Ink

Eunice Geustyn is a master printmaker with extensive experience with tertiary students and publishing for renowned artists. Her own work is featured in notable collections and Eunice holds a Masters in Fine Art Degree.
