Winter School 2026 Photography- A SELF-PORTRAIT STUDIO EXPLORATION

A SELF-PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO EXPLORATION

This fun and intensive event will immerse participants into the culture of the photo studio. You will join professional photographer and artist Leah Hawker for a day in our studio where you’ll learn how the camera, lights, studio environment and subject are synchronized to create powerful results.

Spend six interactive hours making three self-portraits in three totally different set-ups and with three different lighting styles. Walk away with your digital portraits.

Participants will shoot, assist, style and model.

Be prepared to learn, play and create!

We’ll begin with an overview of the studio, the camera and the role of the background in enhancing the model/subject.

We will set-up the studio three times with demonstrations, discussions and hands-on learning. The set-ups will create three totally different results. We will play with photographic lighting, investigate dramatic styles and beauty photography.

Each student will have the opportunity to create their own self-portraits in each of the three set-ups guided by Leah.

You will learn how the camera settings influence photography and how the camera and lights speak to each other in a fun and interactive atmosphere all while making your own take-home images.

Designed for anyone wanting to experiment, play and uncover the potential of the photo studio and creative portrait photography.
